Cannot export to Excel from Report Manager
"Internet Explorer cannot download Format=Ecels from reports.server"
Internet Explorer was not able to open this Internet site. The requested
site is either unavailable or cannot be found. Please try again later."
This only happens when the person accessing reports manager is not a local
administrator. Local administrator privileges make the problem go away.
What is report manager trying to access that I need to give my user access
to? I cannot make the user a local admin. The problem does not just occur if exporting to excel. It's all file types.
Any file type we try to export to from report manager kicks back essentially
the same error we were getting when trying to export to excel. Oddly enough,
the development server which uses 2k3 server doesn't do this. The production
server that is running Server 2K does.

Cannot edit RS reports...!
I need to make small changes to existing reports. I'm able to execute
the reports and view the report list through the Report Manager, but I
don't ge the "Edit" options for the reports.
What security options must I have to be able to edit the reports?
Also, are the RDLs stored in the Catalog table? I ask because I can't
find an RDL on the report server to save my life...
Thanks! The edit button allows saving the RDL out to a file. Then you use the
designer to modify it and then deploy it back to the server. You should
install the designer on your local machine.
Are you getting prompted for a place to save the file when you click on the
edit button. If not then it is a security issue and you need to be added to
the appropriate role in Reporting Services.
RS stores the RDL in the database but you should not go directly against the
database. I haven't bothered to look but I doubt if it is in a readable
format anyway.

be a section on that page that says Report Definition and has a link that
says Edit.
You have to click on the report (i.e. one by one) and then do properties for
that repor. You cannot do a whole directory.

Thanks!I just verified and I do have the "Content Manager" role. So far my

Cannot Deploy Reports Using Custom Assembly - "Access is Denied"
We have a custom assembly that worked fine with SSRS 2000. Now that we have upgraded to SQL 2005 we get an "Access is denied" error when attempting to deploy reports that reference this assembly. I could swear that when we first attempted it it worked. We decided to make a minor change to the assembly code and that's when the problem started, even though I've since reverted back to the original code to make certain that the minor change wasn't the issue. The assembly is in the proper folder - C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.2\Reporting Services\ReportServer\bin - and the reports are referencing the current version. I've searched high and low on the web for an answer but have found nothing even remotely helpful. All this code does is return a string...it's not doing anything that should require any additional security; and even then I doubt if there would be a problem when deploying.
The full text of the error is:
Error while loading code module: ‘Reporting, Version=1.0.2778.12272, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null’. Details: Could not load file or assembly 'Reporting, Version=1.0.2778.12272, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null' or one of its dependencies. Access is denied.
Any ideas? Anyone? I'm at my wit's end on this!
Thanks,
Mike

|||Have you deployed your assemby dll to the GAC or it is in the File System. If you have it in the files system be sure it is also in the folder. Install path / ReportingServices/ReportServer/bin and / ReportingServices/ReportManager/bin|||
Thanks, but I've tried this and it made no difference.
The code was originally developed in VS2003 and deployed to a SQL 2000 server, just as in the linked article. All we did was copy the dll to the appropriate folder on the server and it worked. The difference now is that we're using VS2005 and SQL 2005. The only other difference is that formerly SRSS and our SQL db's all resided on the same server and now they are on separate servers. I've copied the dll only to the SRSS server. Should it also be on the db server?

It's in the file system and resides in the appropriate folder. It's exactly as it was when we were using VS2003 and SQL 2000. I can't help but think it's server related, because the only difference (other than the aforementioned versions) is that we've migrated to new servers and whereas we formerly had only the one server with SRSS and our db's, they now reside on different servers.
|||I do not think you should copy to the db server. When moving your code to VS 2005 did you create a different strong name? If so then your public token may be different and this may cause issues. If the public token is different or same be sure that you have added a strong name blob to the following files. Installpath/ReportServer/rssvpolicy.config and Installpath/reportmanager/rsmgrpolicy.config. To do so bakup your config files, open the files in your editor and locate the last entry of </CodeGroup></CodeGroup>

PermissionSetName="FullTrust"
Name="CustomAssembly"
Description="This code group grants My cusstom Assembly permissions. ">

/>
</CodeGroup>
You MUST replace the PublicKeyBlob with the blob for your assembly. To get this blob use the command
SECUTIL.EXE -s assemblyname.dll > blob.txt
This send the blob to the file blob.txt
Add your assembly to the GAC instead of file system. Stop the RS process and restart.
Cannot Deploy Reports to Report Server
We have just set up SQL Server (2005, SP2) with RS on a Windows 2003 server.
None of us have ever deployed RS before. To make matters worse, all of our
network operations have been outsourced, so we do not have control of the
machine and the people who do don't know what they're doing either.
I can browse to <servername>\reports and to
<servername>\reportexecution2005.asmx. However when I try to browse to
<servername>\reportserver or try to deploy reports from VS2003, I get the
following error: The permissions granted to user 'ADSDOMAIN\ERichardson' are
insufficient for performing this operation. (rsAccessDenied) .
a)How should the permissions be set up so that I can deploy and manage the
reports?
b)How should the permissions be set up so that certain users can access the
Report Manager?
c)How should the permission be set up so that the majority of users can
access reports through links in the VS.Net application?
I know this is a lot of material to cover at once. We've got the blind
leading the blind here. Maybe we could start with how to grant me access to
deploy and manage the reports and then take it from there.
I would appreciate any help I can get. These outsourced people aren't going
to make the effort to figure this out. We're going to have to spoonfeed
them:-)

For Item (a), you may want to check the security on the Reports and
ReportServer Virtual Directories. You may want to change the Directory
Security (via right-clicking the virtual directories in IIS ->
Properties -> Directory Security tab -> Edit... button -> select
'Anonymous access' and 'Integrated Windows Authentication').
For Item (b), you set the user permissions in the Report Manager in
the second tab on the main page (I don't remember the name of it). You
can allow Browse, Publish, etc for various users that you add (note
that the standard windows format is: DOMAIN\User).
For Item (c), Browse permissions should be sufficient for most users
(refer to Item (b) response).
Hope this helps.

Cannot deploy new report
I been not been uploading any new reports for a while but reporting services is running fine on our network.
I added a new report via Visual studio 2003 today but got the following error when trying to deploy
a connection cannot be made to the report server.
Im not sure if sql server 2000 user has been taken off as I was doing a spring clean and may have remove the vital user. This is just a worry, maybe not true.
What users shoulod I have on SQL server to enable deploying of reports, or has anyone come across this problem?
Many thanks in advance
Scott
If anyone else has this problem, I have figured it out for me..
The SSL needed re-importing. Work fine after this. When importing into IE I allowed the system to decided where to put it rather than selecting myself. Hope that helps anyone else

sqlCannot deploy data source DataSource to the server because it already exists and OverwriteDataSo
When I deploy the reports I get the following warning

Is there any way of specifying Overwrite data source.
Any suggestion is highly appreciated.
Its in the properties of the report project...|||Thanks I got that.Cannot deploy
is installed. The two RS databases exist, as do the two virtuals.
Anyone seen the error below or have any procedure for diagnosing it?

cannot delete user & shrink log file
1. When I try to delete a user from a specific database,
it reports that that user cannot be dropped as it owns
objects. The db_owner is 'sa' not this user.
2. When I try to shrink the size of my log file, it
reports, "Cannot shrink log file 2 (cms1_log) because all
logical log files are in use."
Please help. Thanks.1. My guess is that the user own some objects. If you are used to
Enterprise Manager then expand each objects list and see if the user own
anything like "tables", "views", "store procedure", "user defined functions"
...
2. What is your recovery model? Right click server in EM, then click

#1..It could also be that that the user owns other objects like table,
stored procedures etc.Using the below query, you can find out the objects:
SELECT [name]
FROM sysobjects
WHERE uid=USER_ID('<user_name>')
Once there, try to change the ownership to another user, using
sp_changeobjectowner.

I can see many objects owned by the user I wish to drop.
However, when I try to use the sp_changeobjectowner sproc,
it tells me that the object does not exist or is not a
valid object for this operation.
Thanks again.

no issues. Now have verion 2005 installed and building some reports. I

If you have not yet installed SP1 or SP2 for SQL Server 2005, you will
want to install it on the Report Server. This link might provide some
insight. Hope this helps.

Just tried to delete from the properties page and received the same
error. Thanks for the suggestion.|||You have global "NOCOUNT" turned on on the SQL Server. Turn that off.
Reporting Services requires NOCOUNT off so that it knows that items/records
were actually deleted.

Cannot Delete or Overwrite reports
utlisation and practically cripples the server (simple sql queries take
forever). Eventually the delete operation times out. I have managed to delete
other reports with success. I see some other people are having the same
problem. I have tried creating a report with the same name and overwriting
but then the designer times out also when I try to deploy it over the old
report.
What sort of behaviour is this? A simple DELETE operation does not work! Is
this product fundamentally flawed or what? Can you post the RDL file which reproduces the behavior? Which version of
Reporting Services are you using?

Cannot create user on Report Server 2005
running 2000.
I launched the reports website.
When I try to do New System Role Assignment, I type in a domain user and
select a role and click OK, nothing at all happens. No error message, no
response, nothing.
Does anyone have any idea what might be going on?What I tend to do is create a local group and add my domain users to the
local group. Two things to try. Did you put the domain in front of the user?
I.e. MyDomain\Username
Second, are you in the local administrators group. Perhaps you don't have
rights to be doing this.

Cannot create subscriptions from Management Studio
Reports have shared Data Source with stored credentials
SQL Agent is up and running
In surface area configuration "Scheduling and delivery" for SSRS are enabled
SSRS Execution account has been set up
E-mail settings are fine
I'm logged in as Admin, able to everything, but...
When I right-click on report/subscriptions folder, both "New subscription"
and "New data driven subscription" are DISABLED.
What's wrong? That's driving me crazy!
DmitryHello Dmitry,
I would like to know, when you try to use the Report Manager Via web
interface,
If you try to use the Report Manager via web and create the subscription,
what's the result?

I am using custom (forms) security and the admin can only log in through
Management Studio. For security purposes (this is internet-faced
application) no separate login pages for SSRS exist.
Regular users (authenticated and authorized) can see the reports inside web
application via ReportViewer control, which is getting the instance of
IReportServerCredentials.

may not connect to the reporting services correctly.

Yes, the admin is in any possible role. I already mentioned that in my
initial message. I'm able to do everything that's not subscriptions related.
Subscription-related menu items are simply disabled and I need to know why.
Dmitry.|||Hello Dmitry,
The admin you use is a domain account or a form authentication account?
Have you checked what's the role of this account on the reporting services?
Is it a System admin ?
Also, for the report, does it have the Manage all subscriptions permission?

There's no such account technically. Admin is authenticated by
username/password inside forms security extension and after that it is given
unlimited access in any CheckAccess method...

I answered this question already:
System User
System Administrator
Browser
Content Manager
Publisher
Report Builder
> Is it a System admin ?
Yes.
> Also, for the report, does it have the Manage all subscriptions

Through Content Manager role, yes
As a matter of fact I have just installed the second instance of RS with
standard security and all the defaults. And I observe the same damn thing:
subscription related menu items are disabled in Management studio, but I can
create subscriptions using the same Windows credentials in the browser.
Which tells me the original issue may be not related to my custom security
extension at all.

Cannot Create Subscription
reports that I am able to schedule for snapshots. The error message says
"Subscriptions cannot be created because the credentials used to run the
report are not stored, the report is using user-defined parameter values, or
if a linked report, the report is no longer valid." There are no linked
reports involved, and there are both report parameters and query parameters,
but all have supplied values or defaults. (Since a snapshot works fine, it
would seem that criteria for a subscription would be satisfied). This is a
major problem for my users who believe subscription delivery is an essential
feature. Please help!
--
Bob RogersThen the only part of the error message your response didn't cover is the
credentials... They must be stored securely in the database... Go to the
datasource, and you may set the connection stuff to be stored in the
database... Then subscriptions can be made.

turned out to be user id being included in the template for report footer --
user id is apparently considered a parameter.

Cannot create compound unique index - server reports duplicate rows but there are none
I am using SQL Server 2000. I have a simple table (only 6 columns)
which currently contains a few hundred rows. There are two fields:
SupplierGroupID and RateAdjustmentDate, the combination of which
should never be repeated.
I am trying to create an index with these two fields specified and the
'Create Unique' box ticked, however, when I try to do this I get an
error saying that duplicate data was found.
There are no duplicates in the table. I have confirmed this by running
the SQL:
Select SupplierGroupID, RateAdjustmentDate, Count(SupplierGroupID)
from tblInvoiceRateAdjustment
Group By SupplierGroupID, RateAdjustmentID
All records report a count of 1.
I have tried this on two instances of SQL Server on two different
servers and get the same error with both.
Why is SQL Server reporting that this is duplicate data when there is
none?
TIA
Paul

the issue is that there are NO duplicates of the field combination for
which I want to create a compound unique index.
I am certain there are no duplicates but still SQL will not allow the
index to be created.

Cannot create an instance of OLE DB Provider "MSDAC"
I'm trying to query a couple of Excel 2007 spreadsheets for some reports
using OpenDataSource in my query to pull in the data.
Everything is find with the preview inside the IDE, but when I deploy my
report I recieve the following error:
An error has occurred during report processing. (rsProcessingAborted)
Query execution failed for data set 'Regression'.
(rsErrorExecutingCommand)
Cannot create an instance of OLE DB provider "MSDASC" for linked
server "(null)".
I've installed 2007 Data Connectivity Components on the report server and
this allowed me to query the data while developing. I'm at a loss why this is
not working after I deploy.
The SQL I'm using to query the data is:
SELECT *
FROM OPENDATASOURCE('Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0',
'Data Source="\\server\document.xlsm";Extended Properties="Excel 12.0
Macro;HDR=YES"')...Sheet1$
Any ideas/suggestions?My guess if this works in development and not in deployment that it has to
do with file security. The report is executed under a different user account
and that account doesn't have rights to the folder where the Excel data
resides. Just a guess because I have never done this.

a security problem. Here's what I did to solve my problem in case anyone
comes across this thread in the future...
I was using a shared data source which connected using windows
authentication. No matter how I tweaked and fiddled around I could not get
windows authentication to work.
So I setup a SQL account with limited rights. Then provided me with a new
error message stating:
Ad hoc access to OLE DB provider 'Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0' has been denied.
You must access this provider through a linked server.
While I have Ad hoc access enabled via Surface Configuration, it would not
allow me to perform an ad hoc query if the user account wasn't a sysadmin to
the SQL Server. Ugh!
I played around with tweaking the DisallowAdhocAccess registry setting for
the provider, but I didn't find a way to allow non-sysadmin accounts the
ability to perform ad hoc queries.
In the end using a SQL authentication with a sysadmin account allowed
OpenDataSource to pull in the external data.
For what it's worth....

I traced the propblem until i found that DXCore (software provided by same company of refactor) was the reason.
I removed DXcore , and every thing in reporting service in visual studio 2005 become working well !!!..
Is it a bug in DXcore ?

We are currently investigating a conflict with DevExpress Refactor. Do you have Refactor! installed? Do you work with VB projects and BI projects in the same instance of VS? Once Refactor! has been loaded into VS, any attempt to add files to a BI project will fail. The workaround is to work with BI projects and VB projects in separate instances of VS.

I will check this out as I also have Refactor! installed.
the behavior matches my problem, adding new files is the failure point.
what A pain!
I was thinking it was Team Related ( Version contol etc...) but I shall see.
in my case 2 pc's are now fixed!!! Great!!!!|||
Updated to the new versions of Refactor and CodeRush - The problem is fixed !

The latest version of Refactor and CodeRush both is 2.0.1
Both can be downloaded from www.devexpress.com

I traced the propblem until i found that DXCore (software provided by same company of refactor) was the reason.
I removed DXcore , and every thing in reporting service in visual studio 2005 become working well !!!..
Is it a bug in DXcore ?
Thanks to you and all contributors in that post.
