Cannot export to excel from report manager

I'm reposting this since no one has answered and I'm finding other forums
where people are asking the same question and no answers to be found,
including when I asked the question. It seems like if I'm not the only
person seeing this error, someone, somewhere should have it documented.
I have a windows server 2003 box running in production with SQL Reporting
services, not sure of the version.
When attempting to export to Excel from report manager we get the error:
"Internet Explorer cannot download Format=Excel from reports.server
Internet Explorer was not able to open this Internet site. The requested
site is either unavailable or cannot be found. Please try again later."
We only get this error on some machines. Other machines work just fine.
They are all running against the production server. We do not get the error
when it's run against the dev server.I've run into problems with Excel export with two different scenarios:
- some of the controls in the report did not have the same language setting
as the report
- I'd used special Norwegian characters (like æøå)
I don't think the second scenario applies to you. :) But you might want to
make sure all the controls are in the same language. Just a stab in the
dark: Do you use User!Language for any reports or controls? In that case the
reports might work out on computers with the same language setting as the
server, but not if you run a different language.
Do the computers with errors have the same security settings in the browser
as the ones without error?

for one is running Windows 2K SP4 and the other is Win XP SP 2. All the
other settings are the same. The other thing we've found is that on a
different XP machine using the same image as the one we have the problem on,
if the user is given local admin rights the problem doesn't occur. However,
granting local admin rights to the user experiencing the issue did not
resolve the issue on her machine.

Cannot export to Excel from Report Manager

When attempting to export to Excel from report manager we get the error
"Internet Explorer cannot download Format=Ecels from reports.server"
Internet Explorer was not able to open this Internet site. The requested
site is either unavailable or cannot be found. Please try again later."
This only happens when the person accessing reports manager is not a local
administrator. Local administrator privileges make the problem go away.
What is report manager trying to access that I need to give my user access
to? I cannot make the user a local admin. The problem does not just occur if exporting to excel. It's all file types.
Any file type we try to export to from report manager kicks back essentially
the same error we were getting when trying to export to excel. Oddly enough,
the development server which uses 2k3 server doesn't do this. The production
server that is running Server 2K does.

Cannot export in SSRS 2005

Everytime I try to export a report I get a pop up box to RUN/SAVE/CANCEL Reserved.ReportViewWebControl.axd. Cannot seem to find any relevant issues with this on the web. I lower the security settings on IE and still no diffenrence. Seems to happen with every export type except XML. Any help is greatly appreciated.

PabloThis forum is on .Net Framework (CLR) integration in SQL Server 2005 that allows you to write routines in CLR languages like c#, VB.NET etc.
I suggest posting your question in SQL Server Reporting Services forum to get a faster response.

Thanks,
-Vineet.

I am using crystal report for reporting in my application but in some computers the application does not show the export option in Excel, i export mostly in excel for reporting but this problem occurs in some computers rest of the computers are exporting normaly i have already installed MDAC 2.8 but could not solve that problem is there any solution then please let me know thanks. Each Export format (Excel, pdf, etc) and each Export Destination (Aplication, Disk, etc) has to have a dll installed on the machine it's running on. If, for example, you can export to pdf, but not to Excel, your problem may be that the dll required for Excel Export is missing.

In Crystal Reports 8.5, there's a file called runtime.hlp that tells exactly what dlls are required depending on what your application uses.

(Ex. For CR 8.5 and Win2k, my Excel export dll is: C:\WINNT\Crystal\u2fxls.dll and my dll for Exporting to Application is: C:\WINNT\Crystal\u2dapp.dll)sql

Cannot execute sub-report in list or table

I have a report that needs to invoke a sub-report for each row in a dataset.
I can execute the sub-report manually without problems. I can place the
sub-report on the main report and set the parameter to the first ID in my
recordset, and the report executes. If I place the sub-report in a list or
table, I get the following error:
An error has occurred while processing a sub-report. Details: Object
reference not set to an instance of an object
For both the table and list, I just added the container control to the main
report and just set the data source. I then add the subreport to the
container and hook up the parameters. I don't modify any other attributes
on the container. To experiment, I added a list to my main report and then
dragged the single-instance sub-report control that was working into the
container but I recieved the same error (I then drag the sub-report to
outside of the container and it renders just fine). I tried hard-coding the
parameters, but I continue to receive the error. I recieve this error in
both VS 2005 and SRS 2005 SP1.
Since the sub-report will execute outside the container, I believe I am
doing something incorrectly with having the sub-report in a container.
1) Does SRS support invoking a sub-report in a container, once per row?
2) If so, what is the recommend container? List, Table, or Matrix?
3) I found the log files to be of little help. I'm including the stack
trace for this error below. Any suggestions on how to troubleshoot this
issue?
Any help would be appreciated

Based on my research, the sub report could be in the data region such as
table, matrix and list.
The error message showes that the seb report could not render correctly.
Since you could render the sub report correctly out of the data region, it
may be related with your parameter.
Would you please let me know the parameter you use in the sub report?
Thank you!

==================================================(This posting is provided "AS IS", with no warranties, and confers no

The sub-report takes a single integer parameter named CompanyID. I have a
recordset that returns a CompanyID. I bound the recordset to the list
control. I have the Parameter Name set to CompanyID and the Paramter Value
set to =Fields!CompanyID.Value. I selected both using the Sub-Report
Properties dialog box, the Parameters tab, using the dropdown arrows.
To continue to troubleshoot the issue, I've done the following:
=========================* Added a textbox to the list that displays the CompanyID value
(=Fields!CompanyID.Value). It displays the expected value.
* I attempted to hard-code the parameter value using the following
syntax:
="100"
=100
100
=CInt(100)
=CInt("100")
* I'm using the following SQL to simplify the main report: SELECT 100 as
CompanyID
* I created a new Main Report that had no controls other than the
sub-report. I used the query above, binding the sub-report parameter to
=First(Fields!CompanyID.Value, "DataSet1"). The sub-report renders. If I
add a list control, bind it to the dataset, drag the sub-report into it, it
will not render. If I drag it out of the list control, it will render. I
didn't change a thing on the sub-report control.
Is there anyway to find out what *exactly* is NULL?
I appreciate your assistance with this.

I sent my email address yesterday morning.
This afternoon I was able to recreate the problem with simple reports. If
necessary, I can send this to you.
Create three (3) reports, each with a single textbox with their name. I
named them "Report A", "Report B", and "Report C".
I add "C" to "B" as a sub-report. B renders fine - I see B and C.
I add "B" to "A" as a sub-report. A renders fine - I see A, B, and C.
I then added a dataset to A.
Declare @.Report table ( ID int )
INSERT INTO @.Report values (1);
INSERT INTO @.Report values (2);
SELECT * FROM @.Report
I added a List control and bound it to the dataset.
I then added a second instance of report B to the list.
At this point I get: Warning 1 [rsErrorExecutingSubreport] An error occurred
while executing the subreport 'subreport1': Object reference not set to an
instance of an object. [Path]\ReportA.rdl 0 0
I'm not accessing the database.
I'm not passing parameters.
If I add Report C to the list, it renders correctly, but B still does not.
This leads me to believe that there may be an issue with multiple levels of
nested reports within a list. This should be very easy to recreate. I can
zip my samples and send them to you if need be.

Thanks for the example of your issue.
I have reproduced it on my side.
I checked our internal database and found a workaround:
In "ReportB", you could add a List control and bound to a dataset which
have only one record. Then put the subreport for "ReportC" in the list
control.
Then in the "ReportA", you could add the subreport and put it in to the
list control without any error.
Please try this workaround on your side and let me know the result. Thank
you!

I was able to resolve this as you suggested, but I ended up having to modify
other reports as once I added the report in question to the "dummy" list

Any ideas when this will be fixed? A hot fix, SP2, etc?

Cannot edit RS reports...!

You need the Manage reports task. You can get this on a default report server installation by having the Content Manager role.

I'm new at using RS, so please bear with me...
I need to make small changes to existing reports. I'm able to execute
the reports and view the report list through the Report Manager, but I
don't ge the "Edit" options for the reports.
What security options must I have to be able to edit the reports?
Also, are the RDLs stored in the Catalog table? I ask because I can't
find an RDL on the report server to save my life...
Thanks!I just verified and I do have the "Content Manager" role. So far my
experience with RS has been pretty frustrating...

Cannot deploy to RS2K from Visual Studio 2005

I started using Visual Studio 2005 and when trying to create a SQL Report and
deploy it to a SQL RS 2000 I get this error message "the attemp to connect to
the report server failed. Checked your connection information and that the
report server is a compatible version.
(Microsoft.ReportingServices.Designer)".
Does that mean Visual Studio 2005 is not backward compatible with SQRS2000?
or do I have to modify something in the config of VS2005?
Any ideas?
CarlosYou can deploy 2000 reports to 2005. You cannot deploy 2005 reports to 2000
server.
2005 is backward compatible in the sense that you don't have to modify any
2000 reports for the report to work in 2005 server. However, to use the new
features (multi-select parameters, user run-time sorting etc) you have to
convert the report.
If you think about it, how would 2005 be able to deploy with a 2000 server.
2000 knows nothing about the new features.
You can run side by side for development. If you have to deploy to 2000 then
you need to install RS 2000 report designer and VS 2003 to host the
designer.

Cannot Deploy Reports to Report Server

I am in desperate need of help.
We have just set up SQL Server (2005, SP2) with RS on a Windows 2003 server.
None of us have ever deployed RS before. To make matters worse, all of our
network operations have been outsourced, so we do not have control of the
machine and the people who do don't know what they're doing either.
I can browse to <servername>\reports and to
<servername>\reportexecution2005.asmx. However when I try to browse to
<servername>\reportserver or try to deploy reports from VS2003, I get the
following error: The permissions granted to user 'ADSDOMAIN\ERichardson' are
insufficient for performing this operation. (rsAccessDenied) .
a)How should the permissions be set up so that I can deploy and manage the
reports?
b)How should the permissions be set up so that certain users can access the
Report Manager?
c)How should the permission be set up so that the majority of users can
access reports through links in the VS.Net application?
I know this is a lot of material to cover at once. We've got the blind
leading the blind here. Maybe we could start with how to grant me access to
deploy and manage the reports and then take it from there.
I would appreciate any help I can get. These outsourced people aren't going
to make the effort to figure this out. We're going to have to spoonfeed
them:-)

For Item (a), you may want to check the security on the Reports and
ReportServer Virtual Directories. You may want to change the Directory
Security (via right-clicking the virtual directories in IIS ->
Properties -> Directory Security tab -> Edit... button -> select
'Anonymous access' and 'Integrated Windows Authentication').
For Item (b), you set the user permissions in the Report Manager in
the second tab on the main page (I don't remember the name of it). You
can allow Browse, Publish, etc for various users that you add (note
that the standard windows format is: DOMAIN\User).
For Item (c), Browse permissions should be sufficient for most users
(refer to Item (b) response).
Hope this helps.

Cannot Deploy Report Model

I'm going through the 2005 SSRS tutorial for creating a report model and I
cannot deploy the model. The message I get is:
The permissions granted to user 'DOMAIN\USER' are insufficient for
performing this operation.
Both the SQL Server 2005 and SSRS are deployed on my machine on which I am
an administrator (both within the windows environment and in SQL Server).
Can someone please help?
Thanks,
JimI would imagine you are part of the Content Manager role on the report
server? Make sure your role on the report server has permission to Manage
Models and View Models. I had this problem when I upgraded from SSRS 2000 to
2005. For some reason none of the report model permissions were set after
the upgrade.

Cannot Deploy Report - Please Help

I am trying to set up Reporting Services. I am using SQL Server 2005 on Win XP Pro.

I installed service pack 2 for SQL Server 2005. The database looks to be set up in the configuration manager. When I try to deploy the report I get the following message:

A connection could not be made to the report server http://localhost/ReportServer

When trying to open the ReportServer folder in IIS I get another message:

An internal error occurred on the report server. See the error log for more details. (rsInternalError) Get Online Help
Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation.
Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.SharePoint, Version=12.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=71e9bce111e9429c' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.

I am not sure what SharePoint is and why I need it. I am just trying to set up simple reports on a local host SQL database and IIS on a standalone PC.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks

Hi Troy23

I don't know if this will help but change the http://localhost/reportserver to http://ipaddresss/reportserver or http://servername/reportserver.

Hope it helps,

Many thanks for your reply. I had the check box for 'SharePoint' ticked. I unticked it and set a few permissions and it worked.

I would like to ask the difference between writing a simple report with report builder and using the report model. I presume there is more to it than the fact it can be utilised on a web server.

Thanks

|||Hi, Your IIS is telling you, or certainly think you have sharepoint installed and you installation of Reportsserver is no longer valid, we sometimes get corruption sin installs, your best bet is remove all instances of Sharepoint, If you can find it? if not dont worry just go to SQL install and remove all instances of report server and then re-install from scratch, this will sort out your issues, Make sure you do a proper reboot in between remove and re-install.

Andy|||Report Builder reports must be written against a report model. You cannot use Report Builder directly against a SQL database (for example). You must create a model for the database. You can do so in Report Manager, in Business Intelligence Development Studio or in Management Studio. Hope this answers your question.

Cannot deploy new report

I been not been uploading any new reports for a while but reporting services is running fine on our network.

I added a new report via Visual studio 2003 today but got the following error when trying to deploy

a connection cannot be made to the report server.

Im not sure if sql server 2000 user has been taken off as I was doing a spring clean and may have remove the vital user. This is just a worry, maybe not true.

What users shoulod I have on SQL server to enable deploying of reports, or has anyone come across this problem?

Many thanks in advance

Scott

If anyone else has this problem, I have figured it out for me..

The SSL needed re-importing. Work fine after this. When importing into IE I allowed the system to decided where to put it rather than selecting myself. Hope that helps anyone else

Cannot Delete Report

I have been using Reporting Services 2000 for a couple of years with
no issues. Now have verion 2005 installed and building some reports. I
created a report that no longer want and when I went to delete it by
"showing details", selecting the correct checkbox and clicking delete,
I am prompted to confirm that I want to delete but am getting the
following error: "An internal error has occured on the Report Server.

I checked the logs and have the following but it does not seem to
specify the reason for throwing the error:

If you have not yet installed SP1 or SP2 for SQL Server 2005, you will
want to install it on the Report Server. This link might provide some
insight. Hope this helps.

Just tried to delete from the properties page and received the same
error. Thanks for the suggestion.|||You have global "NOCOUNT" turned on on the SQL Server. Turn that off.
Reporting Services requires NOCOUNT off so that it knows that items/records
were actually deleted.

Cannot Delete or Overwrite reports

I cannot delete the first report I created. The Server CPU goes to 100%
utlisation and practically cripples the server (simple sql queries take
forever). Eventually the delete operation times out. I have managed to delete
other reports with success. I see some other people are having the same
problem. I have tried creating a report with the same name and overwriting
but then the designer times out also when I try to deploy it over the old
report.
What sort of behaviour is this? A simple DELETE operation does not work! Is
this product fundamentally flawed or what? Can you post the RDL file which reproduces the behavior? Which version of
Reporting Services are you using?

Cannot create user on Report Server 2005

Hi, we installed SQL Server 2005 & Reporting Services on a box that had been
running 2000.
I launched the reports website.
When I try to do New System Role Assignment, I type in a domain user and
select a role and click OK, nothing at all happens. No error message, no
response, nothing.
Does anyone have any idea what might be going on?What I tend to do is create a local group and add my domain users to the
local group. Two things to try. Did you put the domain in front of the user?
I.e. MyDomain\Username
Second, are you in the local administrators group. Perhaps you don't have
rights to be doing this.

Cannot create subscription in with Report Manager

While on the Report Delivery Options page if I click "Select Schedule" or
"OK" nothing happens; no error message, no postback, nothing in the logs,
nothing in a SQL Trace. I cannot create a File Share nor an e-mail
subcription.
I am able to programmaticaly (using ReportServer WebService and
ASP.NET/VB.NET) create a subscription but not with the Report Manager. Any
ideas?have you checked who you are logged into report manager as. What user. do
they have permissions to create a schedule?

Cannot create new Subscription?

Hi,

I recently got the September CTP Enterprise version and installed it on box with Windows Server2003 os. When I go to a report and try to create a new subscription by going to SQL Server management studio, that option is disabled for me.

I have already setup the email configurations and started the sql server agent.

Anyone has ideas why this should happen?
Most likely, the credentials for the report aren't stored. What do you see in Report Manager? The same?|||

I'm having a similar problem where:

- "New Subscription" is greyed out in Server Management Studio.

- Subscribing via the browser, even as the Content Manager, allows you to fill in the form for the subscription but then reports the following error

"The current action cannot be completed because the user data source credentials that are required to execute this report are not stored in the report server database. (rsInvalidDataSourceCredentialSetting)"

Any suggestions?

Cannot create new roles for users or groups as well as folders

Good afternoon,
I cannot seem to create or modify both roles and folders in Report Manager.
When I click on OK in the form to create or modify existing items nothing
happens. Am I forgetting something?
I had an issue during the installation or RS that may weigh in... the
installation of RS would fail at the final phase and give me an error (25619
- KB Article 867872). There is a knowledgebase article for this. It details
using a parameter to not create the virtual folders for Reports and
ReportServer and how to create the virtual folders and it's permissions
afterwards. This completed the installation and everything else, aside from
this issue, appears to be operatin normally.
Specs:
Windows Server 2003
SQL Server 2000 w/ SP3
SQL RS w/ SP1Disregard... another thread gave me the answer:
on the server run:
aspnet_regiis -c
from the .Net framwork dir.
