Cannot Deploy Cube to Server

Hi,

I have created a new Cube where the data source itself is not on a SQL Server (DB2 in my case). Now if I try to deploy my Cube it brings an error messages:

(Translated from German)

System error: Login failed: Unknown user or bad password

I could break down the problem until the point that I assume it has to do with the fact that during the deployment process the BI Studio tries to use the same account defined in my data source to access the non SQL Data source as well as the login for the SQL Server 2005 database to store the analysis data.

How can I change the deployment process so it will use one account for the source data and another one as a login for the analysis database?

Thanks.

Ertan

I would guess that connection is attempted under your Analysis Sever service account.

Check if that has sufficient privileges.

To see the account your Analysis Server is running you can use SQL Server Configuration Manager application installed SQL Installation->Configuration and Tools.

See what user Analysis Server is running under and try connecting to your Oracle database under it's credentials.

|||Also, what is the impersonation account specified for your data source? You can set this either to Service Account or a specified user account - this would enable you to specify a user account to connect to the underlying data source (giving this account the appropriate permissions) rather than giving these permissions to the Analysis Services service account.|||

Actually let me correct myself here.

Connecting to Oracle you should check:

First. The account under which your data source connection is impersonated should have sufficient privileges to connect Oracle machine. Deepened on the way you specified data source can be impersonated under service account or under specific user credentials you specified as part of your data source.

Second. When connecting to Oracle machine, you should specify correct user name and password as part of your connection string.

Cannot Create private Time Dimension

I have a fact table with 32.000.000 rows. In cube editor , I want to create
a
private time dimension based on a datetime type column of my fact table.
after I press next button on "select advanced options" window, several
minutes passes and then a "finish" button appears in the same window
instead of next button. when I pressed finish, I got pop up message "the nam
e
cannot be an empty string" but I have no place to write the name of the
dimension.I typically discourage creating a time dimension like this. I strongly
recommend that you create an independent dimension table which incorporates
"Time". Then use the timestamps from your fact table as FKs to this
dimension. This is normally the best approach because it:
1) allows you to model data which does not exist, e.g. holidays, weekends,
etc, which are not represented in your fact table.
2) dimension processing goes much faster (i.e. you don't have to scan
multiple rows); this is particularly true here because the system will issue
a SELECT DISTINCT to process the private time dimension.
3) private dimensions must always be reprocessed when you process the fact
table -- which can greatly increase your overhead (see #2 above)
4) you will always be limited to a single partition because you can't build
across multiple fact tables (which can limit your scalability, query
response time, rolling "n" months -- all of which use multiple partitions).
5) if you create an independent time dimension table, you can have
interesting extensions to just a timestamp, e.g. model holidays, seasons,
work-days compared to weekends, etc.

Cannot Connect to SSAS using Reporting Services 2005

I am creating a report in Reporting Services 2005 that is using a data cube that has been created in SSAS 2000. I cannot connect to the Cube. If I preview the cube in Reporting Services, I can see the data, however, after deploying the report, I cannot view the data on the webpage. The following error is displayed :

  • An error has occurred during report processing.

  • Cannot create a connection to data source 'Conn_FR'.

  • A connection cannot be made. Ensure that the server is running.

  • No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it

I have also tried to connect to the analysis server using SSMS and the connection failed stating

  • No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it

  • I read another post that said that connection from SSMS to SSAS 2000 is not supported, is this the same case for Reporting Services 2005 to SSAS 2000?

  • Since you can see the cube in the RS designer I assume that you have a problem with the security credentials in Reporting services 2005. You must supply a valid windows account in Report Manager and map that account to a role in AS2000 or AS2005.

    Regards

    Thomas

    |||

    Thanks for the reply,

I have been set up as administrator on the server that analysis services is installed on. But still no access.

I am still concerned that the connection between SQL 2005 and Analysis Services 2000 is not supported.

    Thanks

    |||You have to make sure that all the accounts line up with the right credentials. What account is SSRS running under? Does that account have permissions on the cube?|||

Is the webserver and reporting services on a separate server than AS2000? If so you you will also have to consider the use of Kerberos for security and account validation.

Check what you have been recommended to do, previously, and check Kerberos authentication after that.

    Regards

    /Thomas

First, the SSRS and SSAS are on different servers. The user that is being used is a domain account with admin rights on both servers.

Cannot connect to SQL 2000 AS SP 3 cube from Excel 2000

I have a user who is using Excel 2000 SP 3 to connect to cubes created
in SQL 2000 AS SP 3. The user does have permissions to browse to the cube.
Originally I could not even connect to the cube itself, nor did I have the
OLAP 8.0 provider. I tried all the Office updates, and per a newsgropu tip,
I installed the pivot table service (SQL2000 CD
\msolap\install\PTS\ptslite.exe). I can connect to the cube from his
computer from Excel, but if I create a spreadsheet elsewhere using that
cube, his laptop will not open the cube to run queries. Any suggestions?

    cannot connect to redirector

    Hi,

although I read thru several threads I still did not really find a solution for my problem. I have installed a SQL server 2005.

i built a cube in SQL server BI studio but unable to deploy the project. giving a msg

Error 1 The project could not be deployed to the 'localhost' server because of the following connectivity problems : A connection cannot be made to redirector. Ensure that 'SQL Browser' service is running. To verify or update the name of the target server, right-click on the project in Solution Explorer, select Project Properties, click on the Deployment tab, and then enter the name of the server.

please help me in getting the project deployed.

    thanx in advance.

First make sure Analysis Server service up and running.

Second here is troubleshooting guide for connectivity problems: http://www.sqljunkies.com/WebLog/edwardm/

    |||

    Thanx Edward,

SQL server and sql server browser both are running. I have tried all the trouble shooting things which u said to do it from the site mentioned, but still the same error msg is comming.

Let me explain the problem more in detail,

I am working on a pc no network connections, I built a cube in BI, and when i try to deploy it, its giving me error msg Error 1 The project could not be deployed to the 'xxxxxx' server because of the following connectivity problems : A connection cannot be made to redirector. Ensure that 'SQL Browser' service is running. To verify or update the name of the target server, right-click on the project in Solution Explorer, select Project Properties, click on the Deployment tab, and then enter the name of the server. 0 0

I have created a new database in management studio... when i am tryng to do server registration with database engine, the server name is shown in dropdown list., and when i select it and connect, it gets connected, but when i choose analysis services and try to do server registration, server name is not shown in dropdown list, but there is an option to browse for more, but there is no server available when i browse, as it has only analysis services listed nothing under it to choose. When i enter the same server name which was there for database engine, it gives me a error msg:Testing the registered server failed. Verify the server name, login credentials, and database, and then click Test again.

    ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

A connection cannot be made to redirector. Ensure that 'SQL Browser' service is running. (Microsoft.AnalysisServices.AdomdClient)

No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it (System)

    -

So, when i save the new server registration without testing, it gets save without a connection (i believe) and when i try to connect to object explorer it gives an error msg: A connection cannot be made to redirector. Ensure that 'SQL Browser' service is running. (Microsoft.AnalysisServices.AdomdClient)

    ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it (System)

i have enabled all the protocols for sql express, client protocols, firewall is not enabled.

In the trouble shooting website u have mentioned earlier it said.....

Make sure Analysis Server will allow connections from other machine. Although it is not common, and by default this situation will not happen to you. But this is possible: SQL Server Surface Area Configuration (SAC) tool allows you to force Analysis Server to listen to local connections only. Please make sure to open SAC, click on “Surface Area Configuration for Services and Connections”, expand node for Analysis Services and make sure Remote connections has “Local and Remote Connections” radio button selected.

when i i went into SAC for services and connections, i couldn't find analysis services node there, but i could find remote connections under database engine node along with service.

I am struggling with this problem since few days, trying to fix it but couldn't find the solution. If you can help me it would be really appreciated.

For one, try to use SQL Management studio and connect to your local Analysis Server using names "localhost" or "127.0.0.1"

I tried connecting to Analysis server using names "localhost" and also with "127.0.0.1", but no use it gives same error message: Cannot connect to 127.0.0.1. A connection cannot be made. Ensure that the server is running. (Microsoft.AnalysisServices.AdomdClient)

DIME protocol error: The required bytes cannot be read from the stream. (Microsoft.AnalysisServices.AdomdClient)

and when i tried connecting to Database engine using name 127.0.01 it gives an error msg saying:Cannot connect to 127.0.0.1.An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 2)

Only database engine is getting connected to server when it is connected using name of the sql server, in any other cases it is giving error msgs, analysis services, reporting services, integration services... none are getting connected.

hi! i have tried it, but still not working.

i always get a msg when i try to connect analysis services to the server.

    TITLE: Connect to Server

    Cannot connect to *******-PC\SQLSERVER.

    ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

A connection cannot be made to redirector. Ensure that 'SQL Browser' service is running. (Microsoft.AnalysisServices.AdomdClient)

No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it (System)

    cannot connect to redirector

    Hi,

although I read thru several threads I still did not really find a solution for my problem.

    Thank you verymuch in advance.
