Hello:
When I try to connect to an instance of SQL 2005 in Management Studio on my
laptop, I get the following error message:
An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When
connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that
under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections.
(provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instanc
e
Specified) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: -1)
Please let me know how I can get rid of this error and connect to my
databases.
Thanks!
childofthe1980sIf this is a named instance, is the SQL Server browser
service running?
Did you enable remote connections for the instance using the
Surface Area Configuration app? Are they enabled for the
protocol the client is using?
